Dhobi Ghat preponed by a month

Kiran Rao's directorial debut, usurps Vishal Bhardwaj's Saat Khoon Maaf's release date
PS: Aamir ke biwi ke liye, Priyanka ke saat pati displace ho gaye

Aamir Khan's decision to prepone his wife Kiran Rao's directorial debut Dhobi Ghat by a month, from February 25 to January 21 has not gone down well with Vishal Bhardwaj, who'd planned to release his Priyanka Chopra starrer Saat Khoon Maaf on that date, months ago.
No big deal?

AK has now taken over the Friday that "belonged" to the Kaminey director. Under normal circumstances bringing a film ahead of a month wouldn't stress anyone. But this is no ordinary producer. And Aamir Khan's Dhobi Ghat is no ordinary film. Again, no big deal... right? Except that both films are co-produced by UTV.

Games ke pehle

The reasons being given by Aamir Khan Production for releasing earlier is the coming onslaught of the Cricket World Cup in February. Says a source close to the actor, "Aamir feels the earlier he comes during the year the better. The January 26 weekend is a great time to release a film.

He wants to release before the games start." Folks at UTV have been thrown into a state of confused panic ever since Aamir announced his decision. The company's head honchos have asked Bhardwaj to re-schedule Saat Khoon Maaf.

The adamant director isn't willing to budge. His logic, and perhaps rightly so, being... I got there first. However, Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV however confirms that Saat Khoon Maaf has been shifted to February. So it looks like Aamir Khan has finally gotten his way. Like he always does.

Old Grouses

Aamir Khan and Vishal Bhardwaj have a history of sorts. Things soured between them after the film they were planning together was shelved.

The director approached the actor for a love story of two married people called Mr Mehta & Mrs Singh with Kareena Kapoor.

The actor liked the script, but suggested some changes. Vishal graciously decided to incorporate Aamir's suggestions.

But then, apparently the volume of suggestions kept increasing. Vishal finally gave up the project and did Omkara instead.
